When Hurricanes Attack - Topsail, NC
Wells Environmental was contacted to oversee mold remediation and mitigation at just over 100 separate buildings throughout Topsail in North Carolina. We were charged with initial moisture mapping of buildings following water infiltration, oversight of the mold remediation by a national contractor and then quality control following remediation to ensure the buildings were safe to reoccupy. Hurricane Florence hit pretty hard, tearing off roofs and forcing water through the smallest cracks into buildings. Just after the dust settled, Hurricane Michael hit after crossing the southeast states and delivered a second punch.
Damage ranged from wet drywall around window frames to complete demolition in some buildings. We were on site for just over three weeks and when we left the buildings we worked in were cleared for reoccupancy. We worked closely with the contractor, comparing previous asbestos and lead paint reports to the current needs for removal. New asbestos containing materials were identified along with lead paint throughout many of the buildings we were involved with.
