Lead Services

What is it?

Lead is a metal found naturally on Earth.  Lead was first used in ancient Rome and Greece in the 4th century to line water pipes and to enhance the color of paint used in their art.  In the 1920's, it became common place throughout the United States as a paint additive.  The lead made the paint more vibrant and resistant to abrasion.  Lead was also commonly used to line water lines.  Think of Flint, MI.

What does it do?

Lead dust has been proven to cause permanent neurological damage when ingested or inhaled.  A common source of lead dust comes from opening and closing windows and doors painted with lead based paint.  Exterior lead paint has been found to contaminate soil surrounding the home as well.

After years in the asbestos and mold industry, we have recently received quite a few calls about lead.  States and municipalities are finally on board with the effects of lead poisoning in homes.  In response, we became licensed in the State of Ohio to do both assessments and inspections.

Lead based paint is tested with an XRF gun or by submitting samples to a laboratory.  The State of Ohio is currently offering funds to perform lead testing and abatement.  There are several ways to address a positive result based on the intended project.  Give us a call or send us an email for further information.
